Dear Clinic I had a stroke one year ago. I had to move house and didn't get time to attend to back problems.  I got some osteopath treatment but the pain is ongoing despite pain killers. I have been told my vertebrae have become fused and there is nothing I can do. I have heard that many people can make some person effort for improvement. I am afraid to instigate a plan in case it makes it worse. I am 69yrs old. Can you advise me - re exercise, treatment and nutrition for building osteoporosis. Also some really valuable reading re elder physically situation. I look forward to your response.

Hi Frances What a shame - there is often very little relationship between having a stroke, fused vertebrae and back pain. It sounds all very coincidental. You’ll have to take a leap of faith by seeing somebody who can help and not hinder - dig around and ask for advice or look for testimonials on websites, they are often on the money and should show the good and not so good… You need a fair chunk of relatively specific advice re osteoporosis, nutrition and exercise considering you’ve had a stroke and may have some residual weakness which is not related to your back etc. But please don’t despair - I’m sure there is lots that can be done for you. If you need any recommendations I may be able to help The Guru Six Physio
