No. Most patients book directly with us. If you've already been referred by a GP, consultant or surgeon, we're happy to work alongside them as part of your care.

A Hand Therapist has completed additional specialist training in the hand, wrist and upper limb, on top of their physiotherapy or occupational therapy background. Think of it as a physiotherapist who has in depth knowledge and extra training purely on this complex area of the body.  

Yes, this is a big part of what we do. We work closely alongside surgical teams and their protocols to help you regain movement, strength and function while your tissue heals safely.

Not everyone does. But where a splint would help protect healing tissue, ease pain or support your recovery, we can design and make one for you as part of your treatment.

It depends on what's going on and what you're working towards. Some people need one or two sessions to get back on track. Others, particularly after surgery or a more complex injury, need ongoing support over several weeks or months. We'll talk you through what to expect early on.

Yes. We regularly work with people managing hand and thumb arthritis, combining exercises, joint protection strategies, activity changes and splinting where it helps, with the aim of keeping you moving and independent for the long run.

In most cases, yes. We'll talk through practical changes to how you work, your setup and your routine, so you can stay as active as possible while things heal.

If pain, stiffness, weakness, numbness or reduced movement is getting in the way of your daily life, work, sport or sleep, it's worth having it assessed. Catching things early usually makes for a smoother, quicker recovery.

A first appointment starts with a proper conversation, about your symptoms, your history, the demands of your work and the things you want to get back to, followed by a thorough assessment of movement, strength, sensation and function. You'll leave with a clear picture of what's going on, some exercises to start straight away, and a plan for what comes next.

Our Hand Therapists are qualified physiotherapists and occupational therapists who have undertaken specialist training.
