Hi, I have a really sore patch of hard skin on the ball of my right foot. It’s not a problem until I run further than about 6 miles but then it gets progressively more painful. I’ve seen a podiatrist who frankly wasn’t much help. Is there anything I can do about it?

Hi Jim . The hard skin is usually an indication that something needs protecting or that something is being overloaded. . Most common are your metatarsal heads, which may be dropped. . Dropped MTH’s are due to foot posture, which can be corrected by making sure you’ve got the right footwear or by having an orthotic fitted. Just whipping of the hard skin will not get rid of the problem. . I’m pretty sure any good podiatrist would be able to sort you out with a good orthotic which takes the load off of your MTH’s
