Joe has calf pain but is running the #LondonMarathon on Sunday, Guru says do not run differently but tape

Q&A
Hi
I've been running and training for the marathon on Sunday. I've noticed some pain when running on the outside of my left calf / shin area. Tends to be pain on impact on that foot when I'm running. Any ideas for running on Sunday?
Should I try and book in for a sports massage tomorrow ? (Thursday?)
Shall I tape the area and take painkillers on the day and hope it does not interfere on my run?
Thanks
Joe

Hi Joe
Time is not of the essence and so it’s time to get you running as pain free as poss.
I think a SM is a great idea - and it’ll also give you an extra set of eyes on your injury.
I don’t think I’d try to run differently in Sunday, but tape and painkiller/AI wouldn’t go amiss.
Have fun and run free
By way -
AI - anti inflams (if you can take them)
I think it’s simple overload - you’ve done the training and your body is drifting in the red zone. Your peroneal muscles probably need a little more strength to keep you foot going for mile after mile, and they’ve started to fatigue and swell in protest.

Joe replies: Perfect thank you very much.
Heading over to the expo tonight so going to ask for a massage there if possible. Thanks again for the help
