Neil Sutton asked The Guru for the following Physiotherapy Advice: I’m about to start training for my first half marathon of the year after cutting my mileage down significantly for the 12 months to average only 7-10 miles per week. Would I benefit from a sports massage before picking up the miles? I am a long term sufferer of tight calves and hamstrings. Thanks

Hi Neil Not sure you can ever be over massaged! I’m not sure thought that massage is the long term answer for tight hammy’s or calf’s. Sports Massage Sure massage will help, but until you get to the bottom of why they are tight, they will stay that way. Commonly, poor foot control and/or poor shoe selection will contribute to over loading and over using your muscles, causing them to feel tight….
