I've been struggling with left knee problems since May, painful especially down stairs and often stiff at night, but otherwise doesn'tinterfere with my sports, until recently. I play alot of tennis, swimming, and spinning (although I've stopped since I've had knee problems). I would like to see you, but in the meantime, is it best to stop all sport until I know what the problem is? A physio I saw previously suggested tennis was ok, and swimming, but not to spin. Any advice on this? Thanks Naomi

Hi Naomi I think the physio that you saw before may have thought that you’ve got an issue with the way your kneecap tracks over the front of your thigh bone - no cycling, but swimming OK. Certainly going downstairs fits this description too. I’m not sure that doing anything that makes you worse is a good thing, so I’d stop. If you can do some gentle pain free small squats or lunges with great control then crack on. Go for a little and often option, say 20 of each 4 times a day and see what gives. Ice and anti inflams (as long as you’re good to take them) should also be trialed. No pain, exercise always wins the day! The Guru Six Physio
