Knee and shin pain from Bootcamp classes

Hi there,
I have been experiencing a lot of knee and shin pain since going to a Bootcamp class twice a week for the past 8 months. We do a lot of lunging and squatting.
The tops of my shins just below my knees are incredibly painful and sore to the touch. Even walking around hurts. If i crouch down, I find it quite difficult to stand up without feeling like a very old lady! I am 47.
I have twisted both knees in the past and have recently had ankle pain which they think was in my talo navicular joint. I am reluctant to give up Bootcamp as I feel a lot stronger and fitter.
Might it be something that physio could cure?
I would really appreciate your thoughts.
Many thanks Juliette

Absolutely – this is our arena.
It’s pretty obvs the bootcamp is the issue – keep doing it as your currently are and you’ll just end up giving yourself (possible) long term issues.
So you need to cut back, modify then go forwards.
You’ve loaded yourself too much too soon without enough base level fitness and/or loading capability.
It’s sound like you’ve either got screaming patella tendonosis or an issue with your infrapatella fat pad or even at a push a shin splinty type MTSS thing going on – have a look at Dr Google to narrow it down.
Obviously different things need different treatment approaches, but should be pretty easy for a physio to assess and diagnose correctly.
Get this sorted and the rehab is straight forward.
I’m absolutely sure you’ll get back to boot camp – but horse before cart..
