FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is the assessment and management of a number of different injuries or conditions, focusing on restoring an individual’s movement, strength and function.
What does a Physiotherapist do?
Physiotherapists carry out a thorough clinical assessment, to help diagnose and treat a variety of injuries and conditions. Treatment usually involves a combination of hands-on techniques and progressive exercise rehabilitation, combined with education to make sure you are at the centre of your own recovery journey.
Are Physios doctors?
Physios are not doctors, however we have all undertaken a university degree in Physiotherapy. We work closely with GP’s, consultants and other healthcare professionals to make sure you get the best level of care possible.
What to wear to a Physio appointment?
Any comfy, loose-fitting clothing is ideal but we always have spare shorts and tops in the clinic for anyone that needs them.
How long is a Physio appointment?
Typically, the first physio appointment is 1 hour, to make sure we can get a full history, as well as carry out appropriate treatment. Follow-up appointments will then be either 30 minutes or 1 hour depending on the individual’s needs.
Can a Physio help arthritis?
Yes – exercise, especially mobility and strengthening, has been proven to be the most effective treatment of arthritis. Physio can help educate you around some of the myths surrounding arthritis, and guide you through rehabilitation for your arthritis.
Can a Physio help sciatica?
Sciatica can often cause lower back pain with pain radiating down one of your legs. Physiotherapy is often recommended to help reduce your painful symptoms and tailor a rehabilitation programme specific to you to help restore function.
Can a Physio help neck pain?
Absolutely – Neck pain is the second most common issue we see as physiotherapists. Similar to back pain, there are lots of different causes, but treatment is fairly similar and normally combines manual therapy, education, and exercise rehabilitation.
Can a physio help back pain?
Definitely! Back pain is the most common issue we see as physiotherapists. There are lots of different causes, but treatment is fairly similar and normally combines manual therapy, education, and exercise rehabilitation to get you back fighting fit!
How to self refer for Physio?
You can easily self refer for physiotherapy by either booking through our online system, or calling/emailing your nearest clinic.
How much does a Physio cost?
An initial 1 hour physiotherapy assessment is £130 and a 30 minute follow up appointment is £92. We have a number of specialist services, which cost a little more for their expertise! We also work with the majority of insurance companies who cover physiotherapy.
Should I see a private physiotherapist?
Seeing a private physiotherapist allows you to quickly access high quality physiotherapy without needing to go through your GP for a referral. You will get a truly holistic approach to your recovery, with you at the centre of your rehabilitation journey, and quick, flexible access to the highest quality treatments and services.
