Frequently Asked Questions

Physiotherapy is a  treatment used to help someone regain, maintain or improve their ability to do day to day activities. It can be used for anyone, with/ without any injuries, in any age group. The main physiotherapy specialties include: musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiovascular and respiratory.

Here at Six we have specialists who provide treatments for musculoskeletal conditions, women’s and men’s health, and hand therapy etc.

A musculoskeletal physio can treat people with conditions related to their joints, bones, muscles or peripheral nerves.

Physios treat their patients with a holistic approach. They can identify an individual’s musculoskeletal dysfunction through movement analysis and manual testing. In addition, they also take into account an individual’s general health/ medical history and social history to identify whether there are any barriers to recovery.

Physio treatment generally includes advice and education regarding the individual’s condition, exercise prescription and manual therapy. They can also refer patients to specialists if further investigations or treatments are needed.

No Physiotherapists are not Doctors.
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move around without any restrictions. It’s best if the physio can access the injured area easily as well. For example, if you have shoulder pain, you can wear a tank top.
Depending on whether you are self funding or your insurance policy, your appointment can be either 30 or 60 minutes.
Yes. After a thorough assessment, a physio can provide appropriate hands on treatment and an individualised exercise programme to help regain and improve your functional ability.
Patients can generally be seen within a week for their initial appointment and can have follow up sessions more frequently. Patients can get treatment and advice sooner and have more support throughout their rehabilitation.
