Severe arthritis in both knees

May 25, 2017

I have severe arthritis in both knees where there is no cartilige left at all.

I can’t have an operation as the doctors say it’s to risky as I am overweight and on borderline of diabetes they say I would not get off the table is there anything that you can suggest

thank you

Apart from the obvious like loosing weight, having a decent well balanced diet, some simple exercises – starting in a pool to encourage range and resistance why not see if having better supportive footwear or off the shelf orthotics help….

Knee braces may have a role too in allowing you to feel less pain to exercise more.

Exercise is and has to be the way forward. Not too much, or too little. You need to find out what type of exercise you can do without making your knee pain worse. Start non weight bearing, get your quads working and slowly progress – you’ll need help and advise along the way and I wouldn’t recommend you going solo. A decent trainer may help.

If you have been deemed a too high anaesthetic risk then you’ve got nothing to loose.
