Ilona asked The Guru for the following Physiotherapy Advice:
I broke my ankle seven weeks ago and have just started to use an air cushioned weight bearing boot, and think i will need to use this for another 3-4 weeks.
I’m currently having physio once a week at my local hospital but hope to supplement this after i return to work.
I need to rebuild the strength in my right leg and regain as much movement as possible and wanted to enquire how Six Physio could help me to do this?
Many thanks
Ilona

Hi Ilona
The movement you’ll end up with will all depend where in the ankle is the fracture. Fractures that cross joints, generally, will lead to a greater loss of movement at a later date.
Getting you in a pool may not be a bad idea once you’ve been given the all clear.
You’ll need quite a bit of hands on Physio to get the ankle moving again and releasing the calf muscle. Your hips (really!) will need some attention as walking with a boot may alter the range of movement.
You’ll also need hands off rehab in our studio. It’ll involve lots of balance, stretching and strength work. It’ll not only focus around your ankle but from your pelvis down. Your entire kinetic chain will need input to get you back into tip top condition.
