Seeta asked The Guru for the following Physiotherapy Advice:

What is a shin splint? What do I have to do about the shin splints?

Hi Seeta
.
In the most basic terms it pain along the front (and slightly inside) of your shin.
.
It’s painful during or after exercise and to touch. It may be pudgy and a bit crunchy.
.
It’s often associated with poor foot mechanics/shoes or related to stiff calf muscles and poor foot/leg control.
.
Try stretching your calf, icing and get the right shoes – often the shoe can be too stiff or give too much control. Stay away from things that make your shins painful until you’ve given the above a good blast.
.
If no real change in 2 – 3 weeks, go get some help.
